They were married for 46 years and had three children: Rebeccah Margaret Day, Alanzon Ashberry Day and Sarah Day. After the death of his first wife Jane Dunn, Judge Day was 68 when he married a second time to Mary Ann Hampton. He was age 69 when his daughter Mary Joe Day was born. Information about Judge Day can be found in the History of Macon Co., Georgia by Mrs. J. E. Hays and in the History of Jones County Georgia by Carolyn White Williams, (published in Round Oak, GA in 1957.) Judge Day was a member of the Georgia Legislature from 1824 -1827 & 1830 – 1839. He was Speaker of the Georgia House from 1835-1839. In 1829 he was a delegate to the constitutional convention & a justice of the Interior Court for many years. Judge Day first resided at Round Oak in Jones County, Ga. His estate was named Tranquilla. After 1856 he sold this estate & bought another plantation near Marshallville, GA, which contained 3,175 acres. After the Civil War this place was sold. Joseph and his new family (Mary Ann Hampton & two baby girls) moved to Vineville near Macon, GA, where he died in 1867. Judge Day's tombstone is in the Methodist Church Yard of Marshallville, GA. It bears this inscription: JOSEPH DAY DEPARTED THIS LIFE APRIL 2nd, 1867 AGED 78 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS, HE DIED AS HE LIVED Next to his grave is the tombstone of his first wife, Jane Jincy Dunn Day. His Obituary: Macon Weekly Telegraph , Volume: II, Issue: 20, Page: 1: "DEATH OF AN OLD CITIZEN. - Joseph Day, an excellent citizen and prominent in politics of Middle Georgia, died at his residence at Vineville, Tuesday night last and was buried Wednesday at Marshallville. Mr. Day represented Jones County for many years in the Legislature and was once Speaker of the House of Representatives. He moved to Houston County about ten years ago, and within the last few years changed his residence to Vineville, a suburb of this city. He was about seventy- eight years of age and the news of his death will be read with regret by a large circle of personal friends, besides many of our prominent men with whom he was politically associated in years past."
