I Joseph G. Taylor of Jones County and State of Georgia being in a low state of health but sound of mind & memory, calling to mind the mortality of the body I do make this my last will and Testament. 1st I give my body to the dust & my soul to God who gave it 2 That my funeral expenses by paid with all my just debts to be paid 3 I give and bequeath to my beloved son George L. Taylor that part of my land lying on the East side of the spring branch 4th I give and bequest to my beloved wife Salley Taylor the other part during her widowhood and at her death or marriage to return to my son George L. Taylor 5th To my beloved daughters Henny Lassiter & Sally Perdue, I give & bequeath one bed and furniture 6th My will & desire is that my wife, Salley Taylor keep all my property in her own hand without interruption during her widowhood & at her death or marriage my will is that the whole of my property be equally divided among my six children viz Nancy Taylor, Polly Locay, Henney Lassiter, Salley Perdue, Rachel Thames & George L. Taylor. This I do of my own free will revoking all other wills by me made Joseph G. Taylor and Matthew Lassiter Executors to this my last will & Testament Recorded 34 35 Georgia Jones County Personally appeared before us Jeremiah Baker and Dempsey Willis being duly sworn deposeth and saith that they saw the within named Joseph G. Taylor make his mark and acknowledge the same to be his hand and seal to this Instrument of writing and at the time of his so doing he was sound disposing mind and memory, Being then in his presence as well as the other subscribing witness and at his request we all became witness to the same. JJC Additional Comments: Notes: Joseph Gray Taylor as being born in 1753 and dying in 1816 in Jones County, however, on the 1800 Maryland census, he is in the 45 slot. Father was George Taylor of Maryland. (Worcester County), The abstract and the hand copied will that is on microfilm at the Georgia Archives lists Rachel as "Rachel Thomas." As you can see the original lists her correctly as "Rachel Thames." She married William Thames, War of 1812 veteran and pioneer settler of Clayton County, GA.
