A group of men of this community had a dream…perhaps they had no idea of the number of foot prints that they were leaving to the future generations. These men of vision were: Aaron Jackson, Jonas Jackson, Shepherd Hawthorn, Rufus Floyd, Early Vaughn, Walter Jackson, John Gipson, Thomas Bush, Matt Bush, George Bush, Isham Bush, Nathan Jackson, John Clark and Charlie Porch. In 1884, according to the deed, these men purchased some land near the property of Charlie Porch, back off of the main road. Who is to know how many meetings had been held or prayers prayed or songs sung before the land was purchased? At any rate, that is when the dream began. Many illustrious leaders followed in the line of splendor as pastors: The Reverends Ed Moore, L.G. McLendon, John Giddens, Edgar Crawford, D.L.Clark, Mr. Kemp, John Beasely, Samuel D. Bankston, E.D.McMillan, Carson H. Richardson, Adolphus Dickerson, Joshua Reddick, J.H.Jackson, Rev. Hatcher, R.W.Sutton, J.T.Jewell, Mr. Johnson, Douglas Crockett, Vance Ross, Harvey J. Palmer, James E. Reed, Arundel Hope, R.D.Pollard, Alfred Hoard and our present pastor, Rev. Hubert Brown. In 1985 the four churches of the Barnesville Parish purchased a three bedroom, brick parsonage for the pastor. The various accomplishments under our present pastor’s leadership have been the following:the purchase of a church bus for the outreach program, a copying machine donated by General Tire Co., the Black Tie Extravaganza, the monthly Kiddie Fest, the Annual Gospel Fest, church services each Sunday morning and the unification of John Wesley UMC with Green Mount UMC on January 1, 1999. We mourn the loss of our beloved members Fannie Jane Bush Julian and her brother Warren Bush during the year 2000.
