The bird, a gobbler, was sent to the President's "other home" by 97-year-old Mrs. Eliza F. Manry, of Goggins, in Lamar County. It was Mrs. Manry who provide the Roosevelts with their Thanksgiving piece de resistance last year. The president personally served the bird to a number of younger patients and others at a gaily bedecked table. The turkey, of the mammoth bronze variety, is at present "boarding" with Duncan Leverett, groundsman for the Warm Springs Foundation, of which the President is head, awaiting the pleasure of the chef. The bird was brought to the foundation by Mrs. J. R. Terrell, a close friend of the Manry family. Commenting on the turkey, Mrs. Terrell said: "Mother Manry, as she is affectionately known, is a most wonderful woman, greatly beloved in Lamar County, where she has spent an eventful life. "She really had lots of fun last year in sending the turkey to the President. She received letters from all over the nation. "'I call it much ado about nothing.' Mrs. Manry said at the time. "In addition to daily interest in her home and farm and with her family, Mother Manry is a writer of real charm and ability, her rippling rhymes portray current events and appear in the local papers at intervals, and she is deeply interested in state and national affairs. "Mother Manry has her own idea as to just how a fine turkey should be cooked and quite a bit of merriment went the rounds last year when a New York paper carried a story saying 'The venerable donor of the President's Thanksgiving turkey thinks the Yankees may not know how to cook in true Georgia style.'" A dozen patients are to be seated at the President's table this year when the turkey is carved. They are selected by a drawing, originated by the patients themselves. There will be six boys and six girls, grouped by age.
