Gone Home

On the morning of August 25, 1927, Mrs. Mattie M. Godard, the widow of the 
late Wm. T. Godard, of Milner, Ga., departed this life at the home of her 
youngest daughter, Mrs. J.C. Means, in Sycamore, Ga., age 81 years, 5 months 
and 12 days

The deceased was raised in Jasper county, Georgia, the daughter of Prof. 
Robert Brown and Sarah Long. She was married immediately following the Civil 
War between the states and moved near Milner, Pike County, Ga., where she 
remained a resident until her death.

She was the mother of nine children, three of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Anna 
Bell Godard Coleman died in 1921. The children living are: Geo. D. Godard and 
Mrs. D.G. Thomas, Milner, Ga.; Dr. R.F. Godard, Quincy, Fla.; Mrs. J.C. Means, 
Sycamore, Ga.; and Dr. W.B. Godard, Macon, Ga.

Mrs. Godard was a loving mother and faithful Christian. Her children rise up 
to call her blessed.

Sweet is the memory of a mother whose life has been stalwart in character, 
loving in social relations, and pure in motive and life. Hers is a life which 
should be an effective example to all young women of the land. She was a home-
maker, a home-keeper, and a shining example of Christian character.

The funeral was conducted by Elder J.M. Thomas, of Jennings, Fla., in the 
presence of a concourse of friends and relatives, at the Baptist church in 
Milner, and interment was made in Milner cemetery, August 26th, 1927.
