E. Lee Hawkins Final Tribute was paid to R. E. Lee Hawkins with Masonic rites conducted from the graveside in Greenwood Cemetery Saturday afternoon, Apri l3. Funeral services were held in the Presbyterian Church at two (2:00) o'clock Saturday afternoon. The Rev. Richard Simpson, pastor, was assisted in officiating by Dr. L. S. Williams, pastor of the First Baptist Church. Mr. Hawkins, a well-known and beloved citizen of Barnesville, died at his home on Greenwood Street Thursday night, April 11. He had been critically ill for several months. He was 69 years of age. A native of Atlanta, Mr. Hawkins had made his home in Barnesville for the past 41 years. He was owner of the Coca Cola bottling plant formerly operated here, and maintained interests in several other business enterprises. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and before he became ill he was active in the affairs of the local Masonic lodge. Mr. Hawkins is survived by his wife, the former Miss Maude Thurmond of Forsyth; two sons, Augustus Hawkins of Miami, Florida, and Robert Hawkins of Bremerton, Washington; three sisters, Mrs. Ann Cochran, Mrs. T. B. Rutherford, and Mrs. Durant Smith of Atlatna; two brothers, Sam Hawkins and Joe Hawkins of Atlanta; three grandchildren, Bobbie Nell Sherrard, and Betty Hawkins of Bremerton, Washington.
