Mr. Smith was the band director at Gordon Military College, a position he had held since 1933. He was also band leader at Pike County High until just before his death. A lifelong resident of Barnesville, Mr. Smith was graduated from Gordon High School, Gordon Military School and attended the Cincinnati and Wesleyan Conservatories of Music. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Barnesville and a member of the Griffin Lodge No. 1207 of Elks. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Durand Smith, two sister, Mrs. John S. Manley and Mrs. Lucille S. Yarbrough, both of Griffin; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Nelle B. Smith of Barnesville and serveral nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon, January 30 at 2 o'clock in the Chapel of Haisten's Funeral Home in Barnesville.
