This dear young girl had been in declining health for several months with that ever-dreaded and fatal disease - consumption. Some months ago her uncle, Dr. Dickey of Sycamore, took her to his home to give her all medical attention and her parents thought that a change of climate might benefit her, but alas! No human help could save. They saw that she was growing worse and her father thought best to bring her back home. She arrived at home just twelve days before her death. Such a short time for her friends to visit and administer unto her their loving kindness. During this time she was so weak, she could scarcely talk, but she would greet those that came to see her with a sweet smile. She bore her suffering with great patience and Christian fortitude. While Mabel was and had always been a sweet, good girl and took great interest in attending church worship, she never made an open profession of her religion. We looked for her last year to take up the cross and follow her Savior in obedience to his commands, but like so many of God’s little ones, she felt her unworthiness so great that she lingered outside with that great desire to come and partake of the joys and blessings of this kingdom here on earth. But since she was deprived of this great privilege we have all evidence to believe that she is now resting in that beautiful home above where no pain, sorrows and care can ever come. She was just 22 years of age. Her remains were carried to Thomaston for interment. Her precious mother and sister are buried there. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. B. Broome who spoke words of comfort to the bereaved relatives and friends. May God bless and sustain them in their sad bereavement, knowing that He who is our great King and Ruler doeth all things for the best. The sorrowing relatives have the sympathy of the entire community. - A Friend (Transcribed 6/12/04 Lynn Cunningham) Additional Comments: At Glenwood Cemetery, Upson County, Georgia: Olga E.
