It was known that she was in a serious condition and Mr. J.T. Blalock had gone to Atlanta last Thursday where he could keep in touch with her. To those who were familiar with the circumstances, therefore, the news of her untimely death was no great surprise. Only a few, however, knew that she was ill. Miss Blalock has been ill for [a] time and a few weeks ago she went Kansas City to consult with some specialist there. It was decided that an operation was absolutely necessary and this was performed Monday of last week. According to reports she got along well until the latter part of the week when a turn for the worse came and she died Saturday morning. Owing to some unavoidable delay the body did not leave Kansas City until Monday evening and reached Barnesville Wednesday morning for interment. Miss Blalock was the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. J.T. Blalock and was reared in this city. After graduating from Gordon Institute she attended the Emerson School of oratory at Boston. Here she showed such ability that she became a favorite of Dr. And Mrs. Emerson and since they have treated her like a child of theirs. They gave her a high position in their school and whatever she had to say had great weight with them. After she gave up teaching she took up her residence at Rest Haven and had put new life into everything, the record of her work there giving her a reputation throughout the country. Dr. And Mrs. Emerson spent much of their time at Rest Haven and frequently prominent people of the north and east were visitors at this delightful home. Miss Blalock was a strong character and made a deep impression on many with whom she came in contact. She was a gifted elocutionist and before an audience she could most forcibly present her views. In an address before the state agricultural society a few years since she almost swept the audience off their feet and as a result she was made an honorary member for life, an honor the like of which was never paid to any person by th society. The remains reached Barnesville Wednesday morning and were taken immediately to the Greenwood cemetery for interment, being followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends of the family. Rev. J.O. Grogan had charge of the short services and the body was laid gently away. The people of Barnesville and community will deeply sympathize with Mr. And Mrs. J.T. Blalock, the bereaved parents, in the great affliction which has befallen them in the loss of their beloved daughter.
