Rogers In This City Mrs Rebecca Rogers Poe passed from this life on Monday afternoon, August 22nd. Half past one o’clock, at the residence of her brother, Mr. E.L. Rogers. She had suffered for several years past, but was always hopeful and cheerful under most trying circumstances, and ever ready to lend a helping hand to others. In early life she was married to Col. Norman Poe, son of Judge Washington Poe, of Macon, who belonged to the same Virginia family with Edgar Allen Poe of literary fame. He lived only two years, and after a widowhood of several years, she was united in marriage to his brother, Mr. Edward Poe, who onlt lived one week afterward. Although her life was thus darkly shadowed on the threshold of its happiness and usefulness, her chief comfort lay in ministering to her father in his old age, and to him she was a blessing indeed. She had been a member of the Methodist Church for many years, and conscious of her physical infirmities, her guileless spirit was made perfect through suffering. Beside her twin sister, Miss Mollie Rogers, she has left to mourn her loss Mrs. W.E.H. Searcy, of Griffin, Mrs. Eugene Speer, of Washington, D.C., Warren A Rogers, Thomas Rogers of Arkansas, Harry Rogers of Griffin, and E.L. Rogers of Barnesville. Her gentle presence will be missed from the community, but her friends and neighbors feel that their loss is her eternal gain, for instead of suffering, she is reaping the rich reward promised to those who endure to the end. - L.K.R.
