One of Lamar county's best citizens died Monday, when George Washington Pippin succumbed to a long siege of illness, aged 83. Mr. Pippin's funeral was held on Wednesday afternoon at 3:30, with REv. R. H. Barwick, pastor of his church, in charge, assisted by Rev. W. W. Riner, former pastor. Burial was in Ramah cemetery. Sacred music was rendered by Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Prout and Miss Joanne Prout. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Eliza Winifred E. Pippin; four sons, C. M. Pippin, Albany, Ga.; George O., Barnesville; Master Sgt. Dennard G., Pyrote, Texas, and H. R. Pippin, Culloden; two daughters, Mrs. R. C. Owen, Villa Rica, and Mrs. J. L. Lambert, Atlanta. Mr., Pippin was born in what was then Monroe county, and lived there throughout his life. His home is in the present Redbone district of Lamar county. He was a deacon of Ramah Baptist church, a man of fine character and much ability. He won numerous prizes at fairs in Macon, Atlanta and Barnesville. Many friends in this section, as well as others, regret his death.
