Mr. Rodgers was stricken Thursday while at work at his home, with paralysis and as soon thereafter as possible was taken into the house, his condition being serious, his loved ones and friends realizing that his recovery was exceedingly doubtful. Everything that medical skill and loving attention suggested was done for him but without avail and he passed peacefully to his reward Saturday at noon. The funeral service was held at the First Methodist church Sunday p.m. at 2:30 Rev. M. A. Franklin, pastor, officiating and paying a fine tribute to his life, speaking especially of his devotion to his wife and his affectionate consideration of his aged father and mother. He referred to many marked passages in Mr. Rodgers pocket Testament which showed how he studied and fed his soul from God’s Word. It was an impressive service, a large congregation being present to pay a last sad tribute to his memory. Mr. Rodgers was 50 years old and practically all his life had lived in this community, coming here from Reynolds, Ga.; he was the eldest of Mr. and Mrs. A. P. Rodgers’ sons, whom all knew and loved. He was a faithful member of the Methodist church. There were many lovely floral offerings, typical of the many good deeds of him who had lived so beautifully all his life. The W.O.W., to which Mr. Rodgers belonged, conducted the closing exercises at the grave, attending the service and burial in a body. The following acted as pallbearers. H. W. Carson, R. L. Gordy, L. C. Tyrus, Pierce Owen, L. Batterson, E. Langford, J.T. Butler. He was survived by his wife, who was Miss Kate Whatley, his aged parents, one sister, Mrs. Rob Murray and three brothers, Mr. E. Q.
