J. M. SMITH BURIED THURSDAY Mrs. Kate Jackson Smith, 88, widow of the late J. M. Smith of Redbone District, Lamar County, died at the residence early Wednesday morning after a long illness. Mrs. Smith was a native of old Monroe County, now Lamar, and had lived her entire life in this section. She was a member of Prospect Methodist Church, and was beloved by all her friends and neighbors. Survivors include her daughters: Mrs. R. B. Burns and Mrs. J. I. Kelley, both of Sarasota, Florida; six sons, J. Glenn Smith, Asa C. Smith, Frank W. Smith, Milton S. Smith, and Merrill R. Smith, all of Barnesville; Rufus L. Smith, Stuart, Fla.; a sister, Mr. Ed L. Williams, Juliette; brothers, O. G. Jackson and Jim Jackson, both of Burns, Ga.; 11 granchildren, and nine great- grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock at Hubbard Funeral Home with Rev. Clyde Lancaster officiating. Burial was in the Smith family cemetery. Hubbard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
