Frank Stafford Dies At Barnesville Successful Young Georgian Called in the Prime of His Manhood Barnesville, Ga., Sep. 5 – Col. Frank M. Stafford, one of the most distinguished and successful young men of this city, died early this morning and will be buried from this Methodist Church here tomorrow afternoon at 5 o’clock. He had been in failing health for the past several months. Col. Stafford was 41 years old, a member of the Methodist Church and greatly esteemed as a citizen. He was a graduate of Gordon Institute, Emory College and Poughkeepsie Business College. He was a member of Governor Candler’s staff and was adjutant of battalion under Col. John S. Candler and as such offered his services to the government in the Spanish-American war. He was a director of the democratic committee of Pike, chairman of the twenty-second senatorial district and was a delegate to the democratic convention held at Denver which nominated Bryan. He never sought political office, although frequently urged to be a candidate for different positions. He was a junior member of J. W. Stafford & Sons, devoted his time to cotton and fertilizers and was a director of the First National Bank here. He was useful in many ways to the people of his section and was widely known among the public men of the state. He is survived by his father, Hon. J. W. Stafford, two brothers, W. C. and R. A. Stafford and one sister, Mrs. H. S. Bradley, of St. Louis, his mother having died something over a year ago. The Macon Telegraph Tuesday, September 7, 1909 Page One High Tributes Paid Col. Frank M. Stafford Barnesville, Ga., Sept. 6 – Col. Frank M. Stafford’s funeral was held from the Methodist church this afternoon. All business houses were closed during the services and hundreds were in attendance. Dr. W. N. Ainsworth, president of Wesleyan College, former classmate; Dr. J. H. Eakes, presiding elder of Griffin district; Rev. J. O. Grogan, of Atlanta, and Rev. S. C. Christian pastor, paid high tributes to the deceased as citizen, gentleman and Christian.
