GEO. W. STEVENS DIED SUDDENLY MONDAY NIGHT

George W. Stevens died suddenly at 11 o'clock Monday evening at his home in 
this place.  He was as well and active as usual until death seized upon him.  
He was 64 years of age and spent nearly all his life in this county, having 
been born at Rock Mills.  He was one of the county's most widely known 
citizens.

Mr. Stevens was a graduate of Auburn and was well equipped for the duties of 
life. Many of the best years of his life were devoted to teaching in which 
profession he made a good reputation. He taught in Rock Mills, Roanoke, 
Lineville and Wedowee.  He then served a while as clerk in the Probate office 
under Judge Kaylor and later engaged in business in Roanoke. He was a member 
of the Baptist church and at one time served as moderator of the Randolph 
County Association. Mr. Stevens was a man of jovial and friendly disposition.

The deceased is survived by his wife and four children who are Mrs. Ucal 
Stevens Lewis of Chicago,  Mrs. E.W. Ross of Barnesville, Georgia, Mrs. J.W. 
Archer of Sepulka, Oklahoma and Mr. Carey Stevens of Macon, Georgia.  The 
latter and Mrs. Ross are here. The others will arrive today. The funeral 
services will occur at the First Baptist church at 10 o'clock Thursday morning 
conducted by Dr. Hines the pastor and interment will follow in the city 
cemetery.
