L. Swatts Mr. Robert Lee Swatts, 97, died at his home on Forsyth St., Sunday noon, following an extended illness. A life-long resident of Barnesville, he was a member of the First Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir for 75 years. Mr. Swatts was a retired farmer and merchant and a member of Pinta Lodge No. 88 for 75 years. He was Georgia's oldest Mason. He received a citation for his long years of service in the Masons at special ceremonies held in his honor last year at his home. He was a graduate of Gordon Military College in the class of 1883 and was Gordon's oldest alumnus. Survivors include a son, Henry Hammond Swatts of Barnesville, who has been quite attentive to his father since the death of the late Mrs. Swatts several years ago; two grandsons, Henry Hammond Swatts, Jr., and John Robert Swatts of Opelika, Ala.; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the First Methodist Church in Barnesville. The Rev. Sam H. Coker officiated. burial was in Greenwood Cemetery. He was buried on his 97th birthday. Haisten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
