Lee Hawkins, Jr., of Barnesville, which was solemnized Saturday morning, June 5th, at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Thurmond in Forsyth, Rev. E. D. Hale officiating. The handsome new home of Dr. and Mrs. Thurmond was beautifully decorated for the occasion with ferns, sweet peas and Dorothy Perkins roses. The wedding march was beautifully rendered by Miss Pearsons of Forsyth. The bride entered the parlor with her maid of honor, Miss Ruby Taylor, of Culloden. The groom entered with his best man, Mr. G. V. Martin, of Jackson, a brother of the bride. Little Miss Elizabeth Thurmond bore the ring hidden within a bouquet of sweet peas. The bride was lovely in her going-away suit of blue tricotine, with hat and accessories to match. Her corsage bouquet was of sweet peas showered with valley lilies. Mrs. Hawkins is the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. J. Martin and is a charming and accomplished member of the young social set. Mr. Hawkins is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Lee Hawkins of this city and a nephew of Dr. and Mrs. Thurmond of Forsyth and is a man of sterling qualities, a popular young business man with hosts of friends in Barnesville. After the ceremony Mrs. Thurmond gave a lovely luncheon for the bridal party, after which Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins immediately left for a few days in Atlanta. They will make their home in Barnesville, where they have been extended the heartiest congratulations. Additional Comments: R. E. Lee Hawkins's mother was Maude Elizabeth (Thurmond) Hawkins. One of her brothers was Dr. Thomas Daniel Thurmond. He practiced in Forsyth for awhile and had a daughter named Elizabeth who would have been about six years old in 1920 so it is likely that this is the Thurmond family referred to above.
