He was born March 12, 1947, in Lanier County to the late Dan and Ida V. Bennett. He was the former pastor of Sirmans Baptist Church where he was affectionately known as "Preacher." Currently, he was serving as the associate pastor of Fountain of Faith Mission Church. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge No. 434 and Nashville Eastern Star Chapter No. 334. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Marion Thomas "Cowboy" Bennett, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy H. Bennett, Lakeland; daughter, Selena Jackson, Lakeland; two granddaughters, Misty and Savannah Johnson; brother and sister-in-law, Marion and Emma Dale Bennett, Stockton; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2007, in the Lakeland Chapel of Music Funeral Services with burial following in Fender Cemetery. Masonic rites will be rendered at the graveside. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
