personal property valued at $520, born in Georgia

The 1870 Federal Census shows Hardy S. Spivey (age 14) a farm laborer, living 
in Laurens County, GA with his parents and siblings, could not read or write: 
(Note: the census taker spelled Spivey as Spivy)
Living in the same household were:
Daniel Spivey (age 42) a farmer, born in Georgia, real estate valued at $600, 
and personal property valued at $300.  The census shows that Daniel could not 
write.
Alez Spivey (age 43) keeping house, born in Georgia, could not read or write.
Augustus (age 15) farm laborer, born in Georgia, could not read or write.
John J. (age 11) farm laborer, born in Georgia, could not read or write.
Margaret (age 8) born in Georgia.
Daniel (age 6) born in Georgia.
Alez N. (age 1) born in Georgia.

The 1900 Federal Census shows Hardy Spivey (age 43), married for 10 years; 
Lizzie (age 28) married 10 years, had 4 children and all 4 children were 
living; Arthur (age 10); Horace (age 7); Thomas (age 4); and Nellie (age 2).  
Two houses down from Hardy lived his brother, John Spivey (age 41)and John's 
family.

The 1910 Federal Census shows that Hardy S. Spivey (age 52) owned his own farm 
free and clear, was a farmer on a general farm, could read and write, married 
for 22 years to Lizzie Spivey (age 39).  They had 5 children and all 5 were 
living.  He had been born in Georgia and both his parents were born in 
Georgia.  Four children were living at home: Horace (age 17)was single, 
attending school, and a farm laborer; Tom (age 15) was single, attending 
school, and a farm laborer; Nellie (age 11) attending school; Otis (age 6)
attending school.  Their oldest son, Arthur (age 20) was newly married and 
living next door on a farm that he rented.

The 1920 Federal Census shows Hardy (age 62)living on a farm that he owned free 
and clear.  Living in the same household was his wife, Elizabeth (age 49) and 
his son, Otis (age 16).  Next door on each side of his farm was his brother, 
John J. Spivey and his son Thomas Daniel Spivey.  Hardy's other son, Arthur, 
was living elsewhere in the district on his own farm.

Hardy S. Spivey is buried at Blue Springs Cemetery in Laurens County, GA.  The 
inscription reads: Mr. H. S. Spivey  Born in 1858  Feb. 7, 1921: A friend to 
his country and a believer in Christ.  His wife Elizabeth is buried next to him 
in an unmarked grave.   
  
Hardy Smith married M. Elizabeth Smith. M. Elizabeth was born August 1871 in 
Georgia.  
  
Hardy Smith Spivey and M. Elizabeth Smith had the following children:
 
  1. Horace Gould Spivey was born January 20, 1893 in Rockledge, GA. He died 
November 12, 1961 in Laurens County, GA.    

  2. Arthur F. Spivey was born September 1890 in Laurens County, GA. He died 
September 12, 1953 in Laurens County, GA.    

  3. Thomas Daniel Spivey was born October 3, 1895 in Laurens County, GA. He 
died May 31, 1957 in Laurens County, GA.    

  4. Nellie Spivey was born December 18, 1897 in Laurens County, GA. She died 
May 25, 1930 in Treutlen, GA.    

  5. Otis Benjamin Spivey was born November 21, 1904 in Laurens County, GA. He 
died February 11, 1965 in Unadilla, GA.
