The 1860 Census for Laurens County Georgia shows: Daniel Spivey age 31 years old, farmer, born in Georgia Alez Spivey age 32 years old, born in Georgia Hardy Spivey age 3 years old The 1870 Federal Census shows : (Note: the census taker spelled Spivey as Spivy) Daniel Spivey living in Laurens County, GA (age 42) a farmer, born in Georgia, real estate valued at $600, and personal property valued at $300. The census shows that Daniel could not write. Alez Spivey (age 43) keeping house, born in Georgia, could not read or write. (Misspelled first name) Augustus (age 15) farm laborer, born in Georgia, could not read or write. Hardy S. Spivey (age 14) farm laborer, could not read or write John J. (age 11) farm laborer, born in Georgia, could not read or write. Margaret (age 8) born in Georgia. Daniel (age 6) born in Georgia. Alez N. (age 1) born in Georgia. The 1870 Census shows the Bush family living nearby. The 1880 Federal Census for Laurens County Georgia shows: Daniel Spivey (age 51) a farmer, born in Georgia, can read and write. Alcey Spivey (age 51) keeping house, born in Georgia, can not read or write. Both of Alcey's parents were born in Georgia. (Misspelled first name) John J. Spivey (age 20), single, farm laborer, born in Georgia Alez Spivey (age 18), single, at home, born in Georgia Amos D. Spivey (age 16), single, farm laborer, born in Georgia, can not read or write. Nancy Spivey (age 11), single, at home, born in Georgia Richard Spivey (age 8), single, at home, born in Georgia The 1900 Laurens County Census shows Alsie Spivey (age 70) living next door to her son, Augustus Spivey. Her sister-in-law, Rachel Spivey (age 65) was living with her. Alsie is buried in Silver Leaf Cemetery at Silver Leaf Primitive Baptist Church in Laurens County Georgia. Her marker is next to her husband's, Daniel Spivey, and the quote is: "She did what she could". Her husband, Daniel Spivey founded the Silver Leaf Primitive Baptist Church and was the minister. To get to Silver Leaf Cemetery: Take I-16 to Exit 71, turn right onto Highway 15/78, go 3 miles and turn left onto Highway 86. The church and cemetery are on the left between mile marker 6 & 7.
