He married (1) MARY JANE WORTHY October 26, 1858 in Dublin, Laurens, Ga, daughter of THOMAS WORTHY and SARAH. She was born in 1843 in Dublin, Laurens, Ga, and died there in 1918 Mary Jane Worthy Watson is probably buried at The Ditch in an unmarked grave. Grandma Watson has told me some things about Mary Jane Worthy, his first wife. She knew her. Aunt Missouri, sister of Mary Jane, Grandpa Lem, her son, ( John Lemuel Watson) all went to her funeral and Grandma went with them. It was preached at the Stanley Graveyard, the Ditch so she is buried there in an unmarked grave.. Grandpa Lem took them in his buggy. She seldom visited the house of her son, Grandpa Lem and Grandma Gussie while Grandma and Grandpa lived with them and that was from 1916 until 1919. My grandparents, Clarence and Sarah Robinson Watson lived with his parents for 3 years before they got a house of their own. Mary Jane's house was just the other side of Chappel's Mill. When she got older she lived here and there with most of the time living with her children Delia and Dement. She was a small size woman and "not very nice personality." He married (2) RACHEL MELINDA WATSON January 30, 1887 in Dublin, Laurens, Ga, daughter of TEMPERANCE WATSON. She was born 1857 in Dublin, Laurens, Ga, and died Abt. 1925 in Dublin, Laurens, Ga. David and Mary Jane were married by Jonathan Weaver, J.P. in Laurens County Georgia. I have a copy of their marriage license. Married October 25, 1858. They were divorced. I do not know when or why. David enlisted in the Confederate States Army March 4, 1862 as a private. He was appointed Corporal, captured near Petersburg, Va. March 25, 1865. Released at Point Lookout, Md. June 22, 1865. He was in Co G, 49th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Northern Virginia. He was wounded in his hand. The above information comes from The Roster of Confederate Soldiers in Georgia, Volume 5, page 262. David and Mary Jane were in the 1870 census and he gives his age as 31, so that would make him born in 1839. Every year lists him born a differernt year almost. The only grave I can locate of our people at The Ditch, or Old Stanley Grave Yard is the grave of David. and it is the only grave outside the fenced area of the cemetery and has a new marker put there by the United Daughters of the Conferacy in the last few years. About 1995. I have also been told he died in Wilkinson County at the Shoemake Place. Children of Dave and Jane Worthy Watson are: i. CONEY WATSON, b. Abt. 1860, Dublin, Laurens, Ga; d. Dublin, Laurens, GA.. ii. DEMENT WATSON, b. Abt. 1861, Dublin, Laurens, Ga. iii. JOEL THOMAS WATSON, b. 1861, Dublin, Laurens, Ga; d. April 19, 1922, Dublin, Laurens, GA.. iv. JOHN LEMUEL WATSON, b. November 15, 1865, Dublin, Laurens, Ga; d. December 11, 1954, Hazelhurst, Jeff Davis, Ga. My Great Grandfather. v. ELLA ELIZABETH WATSON, b. 1871, Dublin, Laurens, Ga; d. 1898, Dublin, Laurens, Ga. vi. ARDELLIA JANE WATSON, b. 1877, Dublin, Laurens, Ga. vii. JAMES LOVETT WATSON, b. 1879, Dublin, Laurens, Ga; d. Abt. 1900, Dublin, Laurens, Ga. My Grandpa Watson said he believed this James Lovett was murdered. He died about age 20. per Grandma. Another relative told me she believes he died from flu and Grandpa John Lemuel and another of the brothers took a mule and wagon and went too wherever he was and brought him back in a pine box.
