Olive Cemetery, Dale Co, AL. • The following information comes from copies of Thomas Herbert Dean of Elijah Dean's pension papers filed in Muscogee Co, GA, 7 Nov 1850, and his wife Martha Page Dean’s widow’s pension papers filed 26 Aug 1873 in Dale Co, AL. Also included are papers certifying Elijah and Martha Page Dean's marriage. Elijah Dean/ Deen served in the War of 1812 as follows: The Laurens Troop of Light Dragoons, 2nd Brigade, 5th Division under General David Blackshear; stationed at various times at Hartford, GA and at Ft. Early, GA. 1. Oct 1812 to 31 March 1813. 1st Corp. Chambers Battalion Infantry; Capt Shadrack Adkinson, Col. Smith, Major Manning. Discharged Ft. New Hope, FL. Mustered out by Major Manning. 2. 21 Nov 1814 to 20 May 1815. 1st Lt. Wimberly’s Regiment, Capt John Thomas’ Company, mustered in at Ft. Hawkins, GA. Discharged Darrien, GA. • Additional service: 1. From 1816-1824 Elijah Dean was a Captain in Laurens Co, GA. 2. From 1829-1832 Elijah Dean was a Major in Houston Co, GA. (Major Dean’s Battalion, newly formed from the 13th and 14th and the new 14th and 15th Districts, was ordered by the Court of Inquiry, Perry, Houston County, GA, 17 May 1830). An area of Houston County (around what is now Elco) also bore the designation of Dean's Military District. • Georgia Military Affairs, Vol 4 1814-1819 (copied, indexed, and bound by the authority of John B. Wilson, Secretary of State, under the direction of Mrs. J. B. Hays, State Historian 1940, and bound by the General John Floyd Chapter, Daughters of the War of 1812, from original papers in the Department of Archives and History, W. P. A. Project 5993) has the following information: 5th May 1819, Dublin, Laurens County. Additional Comments: Elijah Dean resigned from the Georgia Militia in 1838 after writing and receiving permission to be excused from the activities surrounding the events that led to the Trail of Tears.
