E.H. McGehee, pastor of the Dublin Methodist church, and Rev. John B. McGehee, D.D., presiding elder of McRae District, have been longer in the ministry than any two brothers in Georgia. Between them they have just completed 100 years as members of the Methodist church in Georgia. They were first members of the old Georgia conference and went to the South Georgia conference when the state was divided. Dr. John B. McGehee joined the conference fifty-three years ago and Rev. E.H. McGehee followed six years later, having been a member for forty- seven years. One of the first circuits served by Dr. McGehee was that of Dublin circuit. Dublin was scarcely more than a village at that time, more than half a century ago. Rev. E.H. McGehee, now that Dublin has become of the chief towns of importance in the South Georgia Conference, the Methodist church here paying its pastor the fifth largest salary in the conference, is the pastor of the church. He has already served the church for two years and was recently sent back for another year. Although they have been in the ministry, one for more than a half century and the other a half century less three years, the two McGehee’s are strong physically and mentally, and it appears now that they have many years of usefulness ahead of them. One would not judge from hearing either preach a sermon that they are almost octogenarians. They both have a great store of anecdotes and always see something bright in the darkest places, and never tire in doing good and serving the Lord. They never neglect any part of their duties as pastors or presiding elders. They have been leaders of the South Georgia Conference for many years and are likely to remain leaders for many years more. Dr. McGehee is one of the delegates from the South Georgia Conference to the General Conference. Savannah News This file has been created by a form at http://www.poppet.org/gafiles/ File size: 2.6 Kb
