Mr. W.A. Bedingfield , one of Laurens County's best beloved pioneers died yesterday at his home in Rentz, GA. He was known all over the county as he lived here for the greater part of his life and was a successful farmer. He leaves many staunch friends who mourn his passing. He was a loyal member of the Baptist Church (Snow Hill) and lived a life that was above reproach. Mr. Bedingfield was ill for several weeks before his death and although he seemed very weak members of his family thought he was improving a little. AT THE END OF THE ARTICLE IS PRINTED "HIS GRANDDAUGHTER, ETTA BEDINGFIELD" Assuming this is not a misprint, we are not sure just who this was that wrote the article. It could be his daughter Elta (George) who was 18 years of age at the time. IN MEMORY OF W.A. Bedingfield On September 7th our hearts were saddened when we received the message our grandfather had "gone home" to dwell with his heavenly father. His last illness lasted 17 days and he was attended by his sons, Dr. W.E. Bedingfield of Rentz, Dr. R.A. Bedingfield of Cadwell, and his grandson Dr. Osler Bedingfield of Augusta, Dr. T.J. Taylor of Rentz, and Dr. J.W. Edmondson of Dublin. All that loving hands could do was done for him, but "Our Father" who doeth all things well, saw fit to take him home. During his last illness, he talked constantly of "going home" and said he was ready to go. He was 75 years of age and he was married in 1878 to Miss Elizabeth Rountree, they having celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on November 11, 1928. To this union was born 16 children, four of whom having passed on. Besides his wife he is survived by the following children, W.E., G.W., R.A., W.H., J.E., D.A., T.L. (?), O.J., D.J., Mrs. O.L. Rowe, Mrs. Milo Smith, and Miss Ettie Bedingfield, 24 grandchildren, his step mother, Mrs. R.A. Bedingfield, one brother, B.J. Bedingfield, and a host of nieces and nephews. He joined Snow Hill Baptist Church at the age of 17. He was faithful and loyal to his church and he served his church as deacon for 40 years. He was superintendent of the Sunday School for several years and also taught in Bible Class in the Sunday School. He served his Christ day by day, and no widow or orphan was ever turned away from his door unaided. He was extensively interested in farmed and had farmed all of his life. He was a successful farmer, a plain unassuming man, an honest man, a good Bible student. He always enjoyed duscussing and explaining the Bible to his children and friends. On September 8th, a beautiful sabbath, a large assemblage of friends and relatives gathered at Snow Hill church to pay their last respects to one they loved. The beautiful floral offerings attested to the love and respect in which he was held. The pastor , Rev, Walter Daniel had charge of the service, the choir singing his favorite songs. We laid him to rest beside his loved ones who had gone on before. The masons had charge of the service at the grave, an impressive service. Mr. Bedingfield had been a Mason for 27 years. Dear grandfather how we miss you but we know you have "gone home" and we hope someday to meet you in that land where there is no sickness, sorrow or death. His Granddaughter Etta Bedingfield (This could have been Elta a daughter of George Bedingfield. She was born in 1911 and would have been 18 years old at this time.)
