                    Dessie Keene Funeral Is Set Tuesday
 Funeral services for Dessie C. Keene, 64, of Dublin Route 6, will be held at 
3pm Tuesday at the Bethlehem Baptist Church. The Rev. H. P. Scogins, the Rev. 
C. E. Vines and the Rev. Frank E. Singleton will officiate and burial will be 
in the church cemetery.
 Active pallbearers will include Grady Screws, Claxton Fountain, Owen Shepard, 
Charles Fountain, Claude Vines Jr., and Roy Burns.
 Named as honorary escort are F. A. Josey, Oliver Graham, Hall Outler, Frank 
Pryor, Dewey Warnock, Grady Cullens, Wadis Bracewell, B. F. Maddox, R. Y. 
Woodard, E. P. Herrington, Carlton Senn, Claude Graham Jr., Julian 
Witherington, Sam Williams, Carlus Gay, C. D. Prescott, and others.
 Mr. Keene, a farmer, died late Sunday night at his residence after being in 
ill health for several months. He was the son of the late Alfred L. Keene and 
Arbelia Keene, pioneer citizens of Laurens County. He was born and reared in 
Laurens County and was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church.
 Survivors include his wife, the former Miss Mary McCord; three daughters, 
Mrs. James N. Canady of Dublin, Mrs. Mark Caneega of Wrightsville, and Mrs. 
Clyde Valentine of Long Beach, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren; two brothers, Cecil Keene of San Francisco, Calif. and Alfred 
P. Keene of Baxley; seven sisters, Mrs. B. B. Harrison of Baxley, Mrs. Luman 
Blankenship of Dublin, Mrs. Lory B. Smith of Dublin, Mrs. Dwight Daniell, Mrs. 
Jesse Gibson, Mrs. C. B. Keene, and Mrs. Harold Jones, all of Dublin.

Dessie was born 22 May 1897 to Alfred Lehman Keen/Keene and Arbelia Stewart 
Keen/Keene. Georgia death certificate #01693.
