(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net May 12, 2012, 7:06 pm The Dublin Courier Herald 12-28-1931 Page 1 FUNERAL HELD AUTO VICTIM Dewell Keen Laid To Rest After Fatal Accident Funeral services for Dewell Keen, 33, East Dublin merchant, were held today at 11 o'clock while his wife is still unaware of his death. Mr. Keen died Sunday morning following an auto accident Saturday night in the same hospital where his wife is confined following a major operation. Mr. Keen was struck by an auto driven by Charlie Waller early Saturday night as he stepped across the highway near his store in East Dublin. Two cars were passing and Mr. Keen is said to have stepped from behind one going from Dublin in front of Mr. Waller's car coming in the direction of the city. The accident is regarded as unavoidable. Mr. Waller, who was returning from Wrightsville, stopped as soon as possible and the injured man, who received a broken leg and internal injuries, was rushed to the Claxton hospital. He died early Sunday morning, and his wife, who was in the same hospital, knew nothing of the accident. Mrs. Keen's condition was said to be excellent today, but she has not yet been informed of the tragedy. Mr. Waller, who has expressed the deepest regret at the accident, was said to be prostrated with grief, although the tragedy is regarded as entirely unavoidable. Dr. C. D. Graves performed the funeral rites, which were held at Bethlehem church today and the Lord Funeral Parlor was in charge of interment. The deceased is survived by his wife, one child, also his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Keen, Dublin; thre brothers, D. C., Cecil, and Paul Keen, Dublin; and eight sisters, Mrs. Bertha Harrison, Mrs. O. D. Cullens, Mrs. L. B. Smith, Mrs. Dwight Daniel, and Misses Lois, Retha Mae, Stella, and Christine Keen. A host of friends also mourn his passing. Additional Comments: Dewell was born 20 May 1898 to Alfred Lehman Keen/Keen and Arbellia Stewart Keen/Keene. His wife was Eddie Kight Keen/Keene and both are buried at Northview Cemetery in Dublin. Georgia death certificate #32429.
