April 30, 1879 Page 3 Obituaries. Departed this life on 22nd of April 1879 Mrs. Rachael Susan McLendon, consort of Bro. John A. McLendon, at the old homestead in Laurens county, Ga. in the 32nd year of her age. Her many virtues, combined wih a sweetness of disposition, and evennessof temper won her a large number ofdevoted friends. "None knew her but to love her," has been the testimony of all her acuaintances since her death. She in early life gave herself to the Savior, whom she loved and served for the past sixteen years as a member of Blue Water Church. Her funeral was preached in the church at dublin on Wednesday, 23rd, by Rev. W. S. Ramsey her former pastor and friend. A large concourse was present to mingle their tears in sympathy with the bereaved ones whom she has left. Her remains were tenderly laid in the grave by loving hands amist sobs to await the morning of the resurrection. she leaves an affectionate husband and childen, the youngest quite an infant, whom we tender to the sympathy of Him who alone can comfort, and who has never sent the mourner away empty. But we sorrow not for her, our sorrow is foor those whom she has left. Her husband, her aged mother, her tender little children and her remaining sisters. We feel assured that He who tempers the wind to the shorn lamb will not forget them and that in due time they be enabled to say: "Blessed be the name of the Lord, He doeth all things well." It seems fitting to bury her in the glad spring-time amid perfume of flowers and song of birds to remind us that she is happy --that for her the bitterness of death in past, that trial and pain and sorrow are henceforth eternal strangers to her. It seemed fitting that her spirit should wing its flight from the dear old home here she was born, where her father died, where she gave herself in marriage, where the little ones left so lonesome, may be reminded of their loss aher gain so constantly. We would meet our loved one in tht far away home of the blest and with her rejoice forever. We would all like her sleep in Jesus when called away from earth. May our desires be realized Additional Comments: Compiler Notes: She is listed in the Laurens County Cemetery Book as being buried at DUBLIN (THE OLD CEMETERY) located back of the First United Methodist Church at Gaines and Monroe Street in the city of Dublin, Georgia. Recorded by John Laurens Chapter NSDAR in 1979. She and her husband John A. McLendon my distant Uncle are both buried there.
