(Jim) Carroll williamcarrollj@bellsouth.net October 10, 2009, 5:45 am The Dublin Courier Herald 7-16-1985 Page 2 Mr. Mimbs Services for George Elbert Mimbs, 79, of Route 1, Alamo, will be held at 5pm Wednesday at Union Springs Baptist Church. The Rev. Mark Boyd and the Rev. Allen Carter will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. A lifelong resident of Laurens County, Mr. Mimbs was the son of the late Morris L. and Okella Foskey Mimbs. He was a member and deacon of Union Springs Baptist Church, a retired carpenter and farmer, and was a gospel singer for 63 years. Mr. Mimbs died early this morning at his residence after an extended illness. Survivors include two daughters, Evie Jean Grooms of Alamo and Sara Harvill of Dublin; two sons, the Rev. Melvin E. Mimbs and Hulon Mimbs, both of Alamo; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The body will be placed in the church at 4pm Wednesday to remain until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends from 7:30-9 o'clock tonight at Townsend Brothers Funeral Home.
