June 20. -(Special) Thomas Allen, a negro, 114 years of age, is dead at the home of his son, Willis Allen, in this county, near Dexter, on the plantation of Dr. W. H. Taylor, representative of the assembly from Laurens. Allen was a native of Wilkinson county, and belonged during slavery times to the Jiles family of that county. He was the father of only three children and death was due to a complete collapse from his old age. Dr. Taylor, who has know the negro for years, states that there is little, if any, doubt as to the correctness of his age.
