Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Montezuma United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bertha Dozier Memorial Park Cemetery in Montezuma. The Revs. Freddie Wheeler, Joe Porterfield and Emory Gilbert will officiate. A native of Laurens County, Mr. Pope lived in Montezuma for the past 36 years. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Pope Sr. He was a member of the Montezuma United Methodist Church., the board of trustees and former president of the Baracca Sunday School Class. He was also the former director of the Montezzuma Lions Club, the Macon County Rebel Boosters and the Macon Chamber of Commerce. He was an automobile saleman and the former owner of Pope's Auto Sale. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Murphy Pope of Montezuma, two daughters Glender Heckert of Fayetteville, N.C., and Alicia Head of Montezuma, a son, Robert I. Pope of Woodstock; two sisters Gertrude Adair of Valdosta and Anita Weeks of Thomaston; two brothers, Marshall Pope of Demopolis, Ala., and John I. Pope Jr. of Thomaston; and four grandchildren.
