Slaughter, 59 of Anderson St., who died yesterday after a brief illness, will be held at 11am Tuesday in the Montrose Baptist Church, where the body will lie in state from 10:30 to 11am. The Rev. W. L. Etheridge and the Rev. Elbert Powell will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be nephews, Billy Joe Powell, J. D. Coley, William Simpson, Edward Slaughter, T. J. Maddox, and William Slaughter. Members of the Marshall A. Weir Lodge will constitute an honorary escort. Mr. Slaughter, a foreman with the Cherokee Brick Compnay, was born in Bleckley County, the son of Thomas J. Slaughter and Mrs. Sallie Evans Slaughter, and and lived here for 16 years, moving here from Montrose. He was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and the Marshall A. Weir Lodge No. 448, Free and Accepted Masons. Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Louise Padgett, Macon; a daughter, Mrs. E. B. Hopper, Macon; two grandchilden, Tina Marie Hopper and E. Barnett Hopper, both of Macon; three brothers, Taft Slaughter, Macon, W. M. Slaughter and Ashton Slaughter, both of Montrose; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Simpson, Danville, Mrs. Esta Bridges, Mrs. C. C. Powell, Mrs. G. R. Maddox, and Mrs. D. T. Coley, all of Montrose; and several nieces and nephews. Hart's Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. Additional Comments: James was born 7 Oct 1904.
