Elton Stewart, 83, of 2352 Shelby St. Columbus, died Monday at his home. The funeral will be at 2pm Wednesday at Striffler-Hamby Macon Road Chapel with burial at Parkhill Cemetery. Mr. Stewart was born July 3, 1903 in Dublin, Georgia, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Stewart. He had lived in Columbus most of his life. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the South Columbus United Methodist Church. He retired in 1945 with 28 years as a Master Sergeant in the US Army. Survivors include his wife, Ora; a daughter, Jacqueline Mayberry of Lakeland, Fla.; a sister, Avis Spivey of Dublin, Ga.; a brother, Luther Cox of Macon, Ga.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
