I Frederick Roberts of the county of Laurens aforesaid being of good health of body and of disposing mind + memroy (praised be God for the same) and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs whilst I have strength and capasity (sic) so to do do make + publish this my last will + testament hereby revoking + making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made, and first and principally I commit my soul into the hands of my Creator who gave it, + my body to the earth, and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to intrust me, I dispose of in the following manner, to wit, I give+bequeath unto my son in law Sharach Duke one dollar. Secondly, I give and bequeath unto my son in law Wright Sheffield one dollar. Thirdly I give unto my grand children Mary Ann Harrison, Thomas R Harrison, Sealey L Harrison, + Hansel (W?) Harrison, part of tract, lot, or parcel of land lying+being in the county aforesaid situated in the first district of originally Wilkinson, now Laurens County aforesaid, known+distinguished in the plans of said district by lot no. 233 number two hundred thrity three that, past which (several illegible words) said tract of land generally known by the name of Roberts' Branch adjoining the town of Dublin in said county, the original tract of land and Franklin Street westwardly to the said town of Dublin and southwardly to the branchaforesaid containing three acres more or less. Fourthly, I give+bequeath unto my son in law William Seward the land whereon he now lives adjoining Franklin Street and lands of the town of Dublin aforesaid to extend southwardly to the branch called Roberts Branch northwardly to the (illegible word) of said Dublin Eastwardly one hundred fifty four yards from said Franklin Street and westwardly to said street it being part of lot or tract of land lying+being in the first district originally Wilkinson now Laurens County known in the plan of said district by lot (no 233) containing twenty acres more or less. Fifthly I give+bequeath unto my son in law Alfred Thompson the land whereon he now lives (there follows description of another tract in lot 233 totalling 21 acres more or less). Sixthly I give+bequeath unto my son Daniel Roberts the balance of my estate not otherwise disposed of, both real+personal, (illegible word) in action+possession, save one Negro woman named Rina which I will+bequeth unto my loving wife Laney Roberts during her natural life, then to my son Daniel Roberts forever. Seventhly+lastly I will, wish+desire that Thomas Moore+Neill (Munroe?) be my executors of this last will+testament. In witness I the said Frederick Roberts do by these presents set my hand+affix my seal this sixteenth day of July in the year of our Lord eighteen hundred+nineteen. (In 1823 Frederick wrote a codicil which revoked the bequeathal of twenty acres to Alfred Thompson, and gave the land instead to Daniel until March 1, 1843, when the title was to revert to the heirs of Mary Thompson, wife of Alfred. Alfred was apparently still alive; no explanation is given for Frederick's change of mind. On both documents Frederick made his mark (X) rather than signing his name).
