The 3 stones that survive with surnames Frazier, Andrews & White. If anyone knows of this cemetery, it's name, or others who were buried in this cemetery, please contact Richard Moon at dick12235@yahoo.com. notes from Richard Moon - "I have run out of leads and not found out very much about the cemetery which covers about 1 acre just north of Anchorage, Inc. A large number of graves (probably 110 or more). It has only 8 headstones that I could locate. It joins their property and is bordered by three other Hickory Grove homes. No access without crossing one of their property. I acquired permission from Mr. Phillips of Anchorage. There is a large step built of old bricks at the East edge of the Cemetery that may have been part of an early church. It is too close to graves to have been a home I think. The Cemetery is located near the end of Hampton Lane which ends at the entrance of Anchorage, Inc. This is about 1/2 mile west of HW 82 and Doublegate Road intersection. George McIntosh, the developer of Hickory Grove Home Addition in the 1990's, told me recently that he was told it was a Slave Cemetery. My guess it was a Slave Cemetery and used by other Black folks after 1865. I acquired a book "The History of Lee County" written @ 1985. It has all the recorded cemeterys in Lee County, but none describe this one. The book says that there a large number of cemeterys in Lee County , mostly small, that have been abandoned and have grown up with vines , trees, etc that used to have dirt road access which is now gone forever. It also said that in the 1800 era, most graves did NOT have headstones. Today I took my daughters housekeeper (4 hrs. per week) to the cemetery. She is 82 years old and has lived in this area all her life. She remembers the Cemetery because when she was a little girl she attended her Great Grandmothers burial in the cemetery. She said it was on the edge of the Gilbert Plantation and it was called the Gilbert Cemetery. She said that she may have attend a couple of other burials there but is not certain. Last week I drove an 85 year old colored woman, my daughters housekeeper, to the site. After seeing it and its location, she told me that it was the location where she attended her Great Grandmothers burial when she was a very little girl. She does not know the name of the Cemetery nor does she remember a church or building. She inquired at her Church last week with others trying to find out any other info. No one knew anything about the Cemetery. She found out that one of her Grandfathers also is buried there.
