King committed to teaching and preaching the work of God was Acting Pastor. After the death of Rev. Richardson, without a doubt the members of the Old St. Stephen Baptist Church called the Rev. James E. King as pastor. The following ministers were ordained at Old St. Stephen: The late Rev. Albert Paxton; surviving ministers include: Rev. A. L. Johnson, Rev. Jack Johnson, and Rev. Surviving deacons include: Dec. Arthur Johnson Jr., *Dec. Willie C. Johnson*, Dec. Reginald Lemon and Dec. Eddie Porter. Inspired and led by the Holy Spirit, the Rev. James E. King, Pastor of the two churches should be united. After prayer and guidance from our Almighty, the two churches merged in March of 1986 and assumed th name Greater United Pleasant Green Baptist Church. Since the merging, Dec. Raymond Redmon and *Dec. Alvin Sanders* were ordained as deacons. The membership has grown substantially with a number of members returning to their home church and by baptism. After the resignation of Rev. James E. King as Pastor in 1992, the church called a young and very capable Pastor, Rev. Eddie B. Washington of the Wooden Grove Baptist Church family. Since the calling of Rev. Washington, several major improvements have been noticed. The Sunday School participation has picked up tremendously; Bible Study Class has grown to triple the original size; the Youth Department is up and running; the church has new pews; a new piano was purchased;and the Church has proven and still proving that it is a progressive and willing-to-learn type of body. We truly thank God for directing Rev. Washington our way. The Deacon Board consists of the following: Dec. Juster Hunter, Dec. Arthur Johnson Jr., Dec. Jessie Byrd, *Dec. Eddie Byrd*, Dec. Raymond Redmon, and Dec. Leroy Jackson. During the course of the re-construction of our church, which was destroyed in May of 1983, a number of our sister churches, family- members and friends threw their arms around us and helped us complete the edifice we are now enjoying. We truly thank God for each of you. GREATER UNITED PLEASANT GREEN CHURCH FAMILY Additional Comments: *Rev. Elijah Williams* passed October 13, 1998.
