Thomas ville, Nov 16. A difficulty occurred at Leesburg today, in which Mr. Edward Lee shot and killed Mr. W. H. Mims. The particulars of the unfortunate affray are about as follows, as near as they can be learned at this hour: The difficulty it seems, arose first between Mims and Lee's father. The latter, it appears, had Mr. Mims employed as an overseer, and had made some remarks about him to the neighbors which were not relished to any great extent. The consequence was that Mims met old man Lee in town this morning, and alluded to the facts already stated. The matter ended in Mims giving Lee a severe beating. Shortly afterwards Mr. Lee's son attacked Mims and shot him fatally. The coroner's jury, rendered a verdict in accordance with the foregoing facts, and Lee was lodged in jail. Public sentiment seems to be in the prisoner's favor, and he will probably be released on bain to-morrow. A telegram to the Americus Republican gives this statement: Leesburg, Nov 16, 5 P.M. At noon to-day Mims met the two Lee's. He abused old man Lee, and as the latter was walking off, gave him one or two kicks from the rear. Young Lee became enraged, obtained a pistol, and approached Mims; when some sharp words passed between them, each holding his hand on his pistol. The Sheriff interfered and stopped the impending fight. Ed. Lee then told Mims that he would drop the matter, but if attacked again would defend himself. Afterwards, while Ed. was at dinner at Brown's boarding house, his father came into the dining-room and asked for his pistol, telling him that Mims was following him with a pistol, abusing him. Young Lee sprang up, rushed past his father saying that it was his fight, he would settle it. at the front door he met Mims, and immediately commenced firing upon him. Mims retreated towards the gate, Lee followed, firing upon him with remarkable rapidity and terrible accuracy. Just before Mims reached the gate he fell forward on his face, heaved a few gasps and was dead. Lee fired four shots in all, each ball passing through Mims right lung. After the shooting Lee went back and finished his dinner. He surrendered to the sheriff in the dining room and is now in jail.
