Anderson of Columbus, Georgia served as a teacher in Smithville, Georgia. Next, he was assigned to work at the old Lee County Training School which was located only a few miles down the road from Smithville. Later years, he was appointed as the principal of that same school. Dr. Anderson served the community of Lee for over half a decade, as an influential educator. He introduced many educational programs to his students. However, a few of his academic programs proved to be unpopular. Dr. Anderson was a principal during war time.
