There was a total of 281 graves that had markers that could be read. There were many gravnes that had no identifying markings on them. Many only had rottne wooden markers. There were many empty spots in the old part of the cemetery which probably have many graves that are overgrown with grass with no tombstones at all. The cemetery was established in 1872. Walthour died in New York City, Aug 12, 1859 and was buried in Midway Cemetery. His wife, Mary Amelia Russell Walthour died in Atlanta, GA 1890 and was buried in the Walthourville Cemetery to which her husband's remains were subsequently removed from Midway. Three graves have the most unusual markers in the cemetery. The frames over the tombs are made of galvanized wire set in concrete. Jane Adams Backon (Mrs. John B. Bacon( is the mother of William D. Bacon, who gave the land for the cemetery. The other graves are his sisters, Mary M. Adams and Susan C. Dunham. ================================= "Children of Pride". by Robert M.
