This church was constituted in July, 1827, in the sourthern part of the county, and is a daughter of Greenwood church. It was located on a site where Rock Hill Methodist Church once stood. The Presbytery organizing this church was composed of Elisha PALMORE, Wychie JACKSON, B. M. SANDERS, James BLANCHARD, F. L. TAYLOR and J. P. MARSHALL. On December 22, 1835, it was incorporated with John BENTLEY (Balaam's son), Benjamin GRAVES (brother-in-law of Balaam), Eli GARNETT (son-in-law of Balaam), John McCORD and John WRIGHT as trustees. (Acts 1835, p. 13). The original building was destroyed by fire and a new one built on the same site. In 1856 Rev. John HOGAN, an outstanding minister of the county and father of Dr. W. A. HOGAN, was ordained to the ministry by this church. Rev. J. P. MARSHALL was the first pastor of this church, and he served till his death in 1832. The succeeding pastors are as follows: A. L. KENNEDY, 1832-1836; John WILSON, 1837-1838; Radford GUNN, 1844-1846; J. C. WEST, 1846-1850; P.F. BURGESS, 1851-1878; H. M. ADAMS, 1879-1902; M. D. ENTZMINGER, 1903-1905; H. M. ADAMS, 1906-1910; Z. M. LEVERETTE, 1911-1915; R. E. LEE, 1915-1916; W. F. WEST, 1917; J. E. LEROY, 1918; W. H. LORD, 1919-1922; Paul V. BERRY, 1923; I. R. WALKER, 1924-1925; and J. R. KIRKLAND from 1926 to present. The church has a present enrollment of 242, and it maintains an excellant Sunday school, with John C. BENTLEY as superintendent.
