  A few sleepy houses mark the spot where LISBON,* with envious eye, in former
years viewed across Broad river the rising fortunes of Petersburg; and, beyond
the Savannah, narrowly scanned the efforts made by Vienna to participate in the
lucrative tobacco trade.
