Dowsing, senr of Lincoln county; after a long and tedious indisposition of nearly two years, which he bore with almost unparalleled patience and christian (sic) fortitude. In the death of this man, society...considerable loss. He was a kind...husband, an indulgent parent...He was beloved and...by all who knew him. His bosom glowed with the purest patriotism. He volunteered his services in the defense of his country, during the revolutionary war, was soon appointed to the command of the company in which he had volunteered, in which he acquitted himself with much honor, and evinced to all who beheld his conduct in the bloody conflict of the battle of Guilford, that he was possessed of undaunted courage. Shortly after the revolutionary war, he examined the evidences of Christianity -- became deeply sensible of the divine inspiration of the Holy Scriptures, was fully awakened to a sense of his lost ...
