J. E. Guillebeau Dies At Home In Lincolnton After Extended Illness Was President of Gordon Military College 24 Years Joseph Edwin Guillebeau, 62, veteran Georgia educator and president of Gordon Military College for 24 years until he retired in 1953, died Saturday night at his home in Lincolnton after a long illness. Col. Guilllebeau was prominent in Georgia educational circles for 40 years. A graduate of Lincolnton High School and Mercer University, class of 1817 [sic; might be 1917?], he was a science teacher at Locust Grove Institute, science instructor at Gordon, and principal of Lincolton High School. While in Barnesville Col. Guillebeau was prominent in community life. He was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, president of the Rotary Club, and was interested in all affairs of the county and city. He served several years on the Selective Service Board as a volunteer. He and Mrs. Buillebeau were among Barnesville's most beloved and respected citizens. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lincolnton Baptist Church, with the Rev. R. L. Buice, pastor, and Dr. Geo. B. Connell, president of Mercer University, officiating. Burial was in Lincolnton Cemetery. During Col. Buillebeau's long illness, he was shown many attentions by the people who loved him so dearly. He and Mrs. Guillebeau, both natives of Lincolnton, have many relatives and friends there who gave them a cordial welcome upon their return there for residence. Barnesville people, also, were eager to show their love and appreciation to the couple who meant so much for the town. A large number from here attended the services and many floral offerings were sent from Barnesville friends. Survivors include Mrs. Guillebeau, who was formerly Miss Ruby Ward; a son, J. E. Buillebeau, Jr., an instructor at Emory at Oxford; a daughter, Mrs. Jack Bond of Atlanta; a grandson, Ward Bond, Atlanta; his mother of Lincolnton; three sisters and three brothers.
