October 5(Special.) Mr., Joe Mathews, a Lincoln county farmer, started to Washington yesterday morning to market a bale of cotton. H drove a one-horse wagon, and was accompanied by two sons. On an up-grade twelve miles from here a bolt broke and dropped one end of the shaft upon the horse's heels. The animal became frightened, ran the wagon against the embankment, overturned it ant the bale of cotton upon Mr. Mathews. Mr. Mathews was removed to his home at Amity, four miles away, where he died two or three hours later. One of his sons, who was also on the wagon at the time of the accident was badly hurt, but it was thought not to be serious, Mr. Mathews leaves a large family.
