His parents were Hampton Cling PARKER and Catherine BAGGS Parker. Additional Comments: Joseph Hampton Parker was a member of the Georgia's House of Representatives, 1911-1914, and of the Senate, 1925-26. He was for fifty-seven years a member of Jones Creek Baptist Church, superintendent of its Sunday School forty-eight years, a deacon for forty-seven, and moderator of the New Sunbury Association for twelve. When he passed away, Dr. O.P. Gilbert, editor of the Christian Index, stated that his death "removes from Southeast Georgia one of its best and most highly honored citizens. His pastor was the Rev. A. R. Richardson, and what pals they were. One was indeed fortunate to witness their comradeship." He was a successful farmer, and cattleman, devoting the whole of his business life to these interests. His wife, Annie Eliza Terry, was a grand lady of the Old South, a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She numbered among her illustrious forebears the brother of Georgia's first Governor John Adam Treutlen. Those who had the privilege of knowing her shall always cherish her memory.
