Pastor McCann performed the ceremony. Rosa was only 16 at the time, while Perry was 23. They were married for 68 years. The couple would attend the local Methodist Church on Sunday morning and the Baptist church at night. They loved all day "sings" as well. Perry and Rosa enjoyed dancing and what was referred to as "cane grindings." Perry's six children, John, Carrie, Jessee, Leonard, Doris and Ruby, were all born at home. During the depression the couple had meat in the smokehouse and corn to carry to the mill, and "made out just fine." Perry retired from farming in 1960 and sold the farm to his son, Leonard. Amazingly, neither John nor Rosa experienced any significant illnesses until their 80's. The couple enjoyed humor, reading and rich friendships throughout their lives together. They have been missed.
