 The Berrien Press -- Arthur L. Avant, 67, of Valdosta died August 2, 2007 at 
South Georgia Medical Center.
  Born January 29, 1940 in Laurens County to Nora Ann Irby Howard of Garfield, 
Arizona and the late Hoyt Spencer Avant, he was Ret. E-7 U.S. Army with 20 
years service, a Vietnam veteran, and a recipient of the Bronze Star and Purple 
Heart. He was also a retired project manage with Civil Service at Moody AFB. He 
was a member of Nashville Post VFW.
  Survivors, in addition to his mother, include his wife, Sue Kight Avant of 
Valdosta; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan and Michelle Avant of 
Nashville, Mark Avant of Valdosta, Neil and Tiffany Avant of Tifton; 
stepfather, Braden Howard of Garfield; one sister, Bethie Biffany of Garfield; 
one brother, Ed J. Irby, Jr. of Moultrie; five grandchildren, Chase Padgett, 
Auston Avant, Christian Avant, Mason Avant, Samantha Avant.
  A funeral service with full military honors was held August 7 at 4 p.m. in 
the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Norman Edwards officiating.
  Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
