She had been ill for the past month and her children and relatives were here at the time of her passing. A stroke of paralysis caused her death. Mrs. Griner was a pioneer resident of Nashville having moved here at the age of fourteen and had made her home here since. She was born in Montgomery county, Georgia, near Sumter City on January 25, 1854, the eldest of eight children of Newton and Lucy Ann Ryals Nash. In 1868 the family moved to this county. Soon afterwards, on December 11, 1869, she was married to Mr. Martin Jasper Griner. He passed away in August 1914. Many were the stories Mrs. Griner told young and old folks about the early settling of Nashville, the people as well as the town. Her histories and biographies were interesting in detail as she told them in her sweet and gentle voice. Mrs. Griner was a great lover of flowers and her yard was a living symbol of the beauty and purity of her every day life, in the blooms gathered there by her many friends. She was loved by the people of Nashville and Berrien county, both young and old, and many are they who will miss her and mourn her passing. Funeral services were held at the Nashville Baptist church on Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock with Rev. A.H. Giddens, pastor of the church, conducting the rites. Interment was in the Nashville cemetery. A choir composed of N.H. Harper, E.L. Griffin, Miss Louise Griffin, Mrs. T.C. Perkins and Mrs. Merle Connell, accompanied by Mrs. S.T. Bragdon, pianist, sang "Abide With Me," and "Amazing Grace." Pall-bearers were J.P. Knight, J.V. Nix, H.L. Carlton, H.M. Watson, N.N. Hughes and W.M. Boykin. Mrs. Griner was a devoted and faithful member of the Missionary Baptist Church and as long as her health per-mitted was active in Church affairs. She is survived by six sons, J.M. and D.N. Griner, of Nashville; O.C. Griner, of Tallahasse, Fla.; R.B. Griner, of St. George, Ga.; E.C. Griner, of Valdosta; and A.B. Griner of Fitzgerald. One daughter, Miss Ida M. Griner, of Nashville; a sister, Mrs. A.E. Bailey, of Gainesville, Fla., and one brother, James Nash, of Gainesville, Fla., and a large number of grandchildren also survive. The Giddens Funeral Home of Nashville was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: From G2Granddaughter, Helena-Suzanne Shreve.
