A native of Akron, Ohio, Mr. Harbin had lived in Valdosta since 1958. Mr. Harbin was Director of Economic Development for the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Harbin served three terms as Mayor of Valdosta from 1974 to 1980. He also served two terms as a city councilman from 1970 to 1974. Mr. Harbin was President of the Georgia Municipal Association from 1977 to 1978. He was named as one of the five Outstanding Young Men of georgia in 1972. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a veteran of the USAF. Survivors include his wife, the former Glen Ann Asbell of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lee and Patti Harbin of Houston, Tex. and Captain Greg Harbin (USAF) of Perry, Ga.; three granddaughters, Gracie Harbin, Emma Kate Harbin, and Georgia Alden Harbin, all of Houston, Tex.; two brothers, Lafe Harbin of Akron, Ohio and Glen Harbin of Ft. Myers, Fla.; in-laws, Edna and Ellison Williamson of Albany, Ga.; five nephews and four nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma and George Harbin and his father-in-law, Glen Bryant Asbell. Funeral services will be held at 11AM Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mac Weaver, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Carson McLane Funeral Home from 4PM until 6PM Sunday.
