 Ruth S. Norris, 93, of Valdosta died May 24, 2014, at her residence following a 
lengthy illness.
 She was born on July 29, 1920, in Berrien County to the late Abner and Sarah 
Hendley Sirmans and has been a resident of this local area all of her life. She 
was a homemaker and member of Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church in 
Nashville. She had an outgoing personality and seemed to make friends with ease. 
She loved to work in her garden and was known with her ability to grow the most 
beautiful daylilies and roses. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-
grandmother and will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
 Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Patty Mayer of Valdosta; 
a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Jean and Donald Kirkland of Nashville; son 
and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Sue Norris of Valdosta; four grandchildren and 
their spouses, Bobby, Jr. and Ruth Mayer of Tallahassee, FL, David and Alisande 
Mayer of Valdosta, Brad and Melissa Kirkland of Nashville, and John F. Norris of 
San Antonio, TX; seven great grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Lucious 
and Ruby Sirmans of Valdosta; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in 
death by her husband, Fred Norris; three sisters and three brothers.
 Funeral services were held May 27 at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Carson McLane 
Funeral Home with Rev. J.W. Dukes, III, officiating. 
 Interment followed at Sunset Hills Cemetery.
 Carson-McLane Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
