June 28, 1892 Given to the Most Proficient Pupil In Dahlonega Agricultural College. The Latin medal presented to the North Georgia Agricultural college at Dahlonega, by Hon. Franklin P. Rice, of this city, was won and will be worn for the next year by Miss Alice Roberts, of Dahlonega. The purpose of the medal was to elicit the very best efforts of the students in Latin, but the requirements also are that there shall be fair standing in three other branches by the successful contestant. Miss Alice Roberts is the fifteen-year-old daughter of Mr. Albert Roberts, a respected citizen of Dahlonega, but a man of very limited means and education. His effort to educate his daughter is his whole thought and her attention, deportment and success in school work offer ample reward to the father. The individual prize drill medal was won by Mr. Olivette, a young man from the upper part of Lumpkin county. His soldierly bearing and fine drilling were highly spoken of by all the visitors at the commencement just closed. These two instances illustrate in some measure the reach of the North Georgia Agricultural college. Students from all over the state, some of the brightest boys in the best families meet in schoolroom and on the drill field side by side with the children of the poorer class all equal as to questions of personal merit and attainment. It is for the best one to win without fear, favor or affection to either party. Such contests, entirely friendly, serve to bring out each student to his fullest. A prosperous term for the college is anticipated next year.
